USTA QuickStart Tennis

QuickStart Tennis is an exciting new play format for learning tennis, designed to bring kids into the game by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring, all tailored to age and size.

This format works by getting kids into the game immediately. Within the first hour of stepping onto the court, they are actually learning the strokes, and moving around and having fun. Scaling the game down helps make the learning process easier and more fun.

Many youth sports have followed this formula for years. Baseball begins with smaller bats, smaller fields and progresses from tee ball, to coach pitch, to player pitch. Basketball and soccer also employ similar methods, including shortened playing surfaces and appropriate sized equipment. That helps ensure that your kids' first experiences in the sport will leave them overjoyed not overwhelmed.

The shorter and narrower courts give kids the confidence and ability to cover the entire court.  Junior racquets are proportionate in length and weight and have the grips that fit smaller hands. Balls that bounce at a height equal to kids' playing abilities allows for better and longer rallies and allows them to build all-court games.

QuickStart 1: Ages 3-4

In this class, young players will be introduced to the game of tennis through a new and fun program designed by the USTA.  Instructors will teach basic strokes and play fun games emphasizing hand-eye coordination and running.  The class is formerly the “Pee Wees” and is designed to get kids playing right away with a new and exciting new format.

QuickStart 2: Ages 5-6

This class is for ages 5 to 6 year olds or those who have graduated from the QuickStart 1 class.  It is formerly the “Advanced Pee Wees” and will continue the QuickStart program to include not only beginner, but more intermediate stroke instruction and fun games.
